Avid Assistant Editor Certification Program

Moviola, a leader in film & television post production for almost 90 years, has created a certification program for the important role of the assistant editor. Producers, editors and industry employers are constantly seeking qualified assistants to work on their productions. Now they can look to the Moviola Education Center for properly trained personnel. The Certification has been endorsed by the Motion Picture Editors Guild (I.A.T.S.E. Local 700).

The program currently consists of five core classes covering the latest workflows and duties of the professional assistant editor. Courses are taught by industry-experienced, certified instructors. Students are tested upon completion of the program and, after passing, are certified and placed in Moviola’s job referral database where employers can search for capable assistant editors.

Equipment used: a variety of post production software & hardware, primarily utilizing Avid Media Composer software on Apple Mac computers and Avid Nitris DX hardware.

Instructors: Four primary instructors, along with various Avid Certified Instructors and experienced editors.

Avid Certified Support Representative (ACSR) Program

This program is designed to train and certify technical support personnel in the troubleshooting and maintenance of Avid’s Media Composer software & hardware and how it works with both Windows & Mac computer operating systems. Moviola is the only training center in the US, other than Avid, to offer this certification program. Avid’s award-winning Media Composer systems are the film and television industry’s standard for editorial.

Students complete an onsite certification course and are tested at the end of the course. Students passing the exam are certified by Avid (through Moviola) as ACSRs (Avid Certified Support Representative). Certification is valid for one year. Moviola offers two of the three types of this certification: ACSR Editing and ACSR Storage.

Moviola also offers the re-certification courses. Students return annually for a shorter re-certification course and exam to update their skills on the latest software and hardware and to maintain their active status as ACSRs.

Equipment used: Avid Media Composer software on Apple Mac Pro and/or HP/Windows computers and Avid hardware, along with additional third-party hardware & software.

Instructor: Johnathon Amayo, ACSR Master Instructor

ETP

The Employment Training Panel (ETP) is a business and labor-supported state agency that funds the costs of vocational training, funded by the Employment Training Tax paid by California employers collected alongside the Unemployment Insurance tax. In regards to the education provided at Moviola, the ETP program allows us to fund services to attract and retain businesses that contribute to a healthy California film and television economy. Through this, workers can be provided with secure jobs that pay good wages and have opportunities for advancement as well as assist employers to successfully compete in the global economy. This promotes the benefits and ongoing investment of training among employers and therefore improving California’s workforce overall.

This program, though funded by employers, is also for the employees’ benefit: through free and discounted training, employees are able to update their skillset and keep themselves and their company competitive against out-of-state businesses.

All potential participating employers must:

Face out-of-state competition, unless funded under Special Employment Training
Have no more than a 20% turnover rate in the prior calendar year
