Class Description:

Moviola’s three-day introduction to Avid Effects course presents the core concepts for creating stunning effects.

This course provides the essential foundation of concepts, tools and procedures of the system on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. This course is also appropriate for Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Symphony users.

At Moviola Digital, Avid class sizes are limited to eight to ten students, and each workstation is limited to just two students to ensure a positive learning experience.

Class time is divided between demonstrations by the instructor followed by hands-on practice exercises, with ample time for experimentation.

Moviola’s three-day 110 course provides students with the following:

  • Understanding Avid’s traditional Key Frame features (i.e. animation; getting video and graphics to move around on the screen
  • Understanding Avid’s ability to play back as many as 12 layers of video in real time, without rendering
  • Creating multilayered effects (i.e. compositing multiple images)
  • Creating Effect Templates (customizing effects and saving them in your own personal effects library that you can take with you from job to job).
  • Using AVX plug-in effects. AVX is shorthand for “Avid Visual Extension.” In Moviola’s 110 course you’ll be introduced to some of the AVX effects created by Avid and other companies which add even more abilities to the already brimming array of effects that come standard with Avid’s Media Composer, Xpress Pro and Symphony systems.
  • Creating motion effects (constant-rate slow/fast motion) and Timewarp effects (the ability to graph speed changes within a shot; e.g. having a shot smoothly transition from regular speed to slow motion)
  • Introduction to the 3D Effects option (more abilities to create effects in a true 3D environment)
  • Nesting video layers and effects. Avid’s Nesting feature allows users to combine an unlimited number of video layers and effects
  • Introduction to using the Color Effect for both color correction and creative image manipulation
  • Basic Introduction to Alpha Mattes (NOTE: this course does not cover other methods of keying such as Chroma Keying or Luma Keying. These are covered in the MC205 Effects Tool & Techniques course).
  • Additional topics include animating titles, using Avid’s “Expert Render” feature; how to get your freeze frame effects and motion effects properly rendered for smooth, professional results; render settings; Avid’s remarkable “Fluid Motion” effects processing for ultra slow motion effects.
  • And more!
