4K is a generic term used to denote film and video formats containing about 4000 pixels horizontally. Up until recently, this has been reserved for resolution-critical visual effects work or large format presentations like IMAX. With the increased resolution of digital cameras, its quickly becoming a standard format for full feature productions.
