This exquisite 2-handled Trogon Ware vase stands 5 tall and measures 4.5 from handle to handle. There is a tiny flea bite on the rim, as show in photos. Otherwise, there are no chips, cracks, or crazing, and no repairs. It is a wonderful example of 1920s-1930s Art Deco Majolica.
Thomas Forester created the Phoenix Works in Longton, England in 1879. He was later joined by his sons Herbert and Victor, incorporating as Thomas Forester & Sons Ltd in 1891. Pre-1900 the company was well known for producing a vast range of majolica, including Trogon Ware in the 1920s and 1930s.
Thomas Dean was a freelance artist and ceramicist who worked at various times for Minton, Wedgewood, Watcombe, Spode, and Foresters. Ronald and Albert Dean were two of his sons and all three designed for Foresters at various times. Ronald Dean (believed to be the artist of this lovely vase) ended his career at Foresters as Works Manager immediately prior to the start of World War II. Foresters closed in 1959.
