Vintage Awesome Rare 1950s Sailing Ship Motion Lamp “Old Ironsides”

Wait til you see this in motion! This Vintage Sailing Ship Motion Lamp seems like high tech to watch, but it’s actually really simple how it works. A cylinder with light and dark areas casts a shadow on the translucent printed shade that is printed with several ships. The heat of the bulb causes the inner cylinder to turn with the images casted on the shade to give the illusion of motion. Ok. That’s the science; now, here’s what you’ll see:

* images of the wind blowing on the sails
* the ocean current moving as the ships sail by
* the bow of the ship plowing water aside
* faint images of land passing by

There are images of ships moving on every side of the lamp, so choose your favorite viewing position. Turn on the lamp. And after a few minutes, you’ll see the “magic” motion happen.
