For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferro rod. But due to this rock's rare large size and shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Total weight is 5 pounds 7.4 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly a pentagon . Its edges measures approximately 7.5 x 3 x 4.5 x 5.5 x 3 . It is approximately 2 thick at its thickest.
This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. This specimen appears to be of exceptional purity, but because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures. Some of these are visible at the surface (see photos).
