Edwardian era (1900 to 1910) hand carved Cornelian shell (Cypraeacassis Rufa) cameo bezel set, surrounded by a filigree picture frame of 10k yellow gold. The detail in the gold is quite beautiful and well crafted. The cameo image is a lovely woman with flowers in her hair and at the shoulder of her draped bodice. The hand made safety clasp dates this to the 1900s. The hinge is also hand made, as is the pin. All in fine working order. In excellent vintage condition with minimal wear to the gold or cameo. There is a very tiny (.5 mm) anomaly at the tip of her nose, visible only with magnification, probably from a bump or drop. Mentioned only as full disclosure. A wonderful addition to a cameo, Victorian/Edwardian or brooch collection.
♦Dimensions: Brooch is 1 3/8 x 1 inch (3.3 x 2.4 cm). Cameo is 25 x 18 mm. Weight is 4.5 grams.
♦Markings: 10K on brooch. (Solid -- not plate or filled.) The cameo has an unusual marking on the back that has to be a signature but I cannot decipher it.
