Here is a unique, and sad, form of wartime memorabilia from the Nazi era. I was told these were hand made in Germany about 1944, when things were really desperate for civilians and the German armies were running out of supplies. These Christmas ornaments were made to raise funds for the military. The small size (the tallest item is 1 1/4 tall) and the very basic materials reflect what the country was reduced to.

These appear to be made of clay with a little paint added. Strings for tree hanging were pressed into the backs. They're not particularly festive, especially Perseus holding a head. One of the ornaments has lost its string, while another no longer holds a loop. Aside from that, these are in very good shape for ephemera made nearly 80 years ago.

I wasn't given a provenance for these, but they came from the estate of a second generation German family.
