Batman #423 has a seemingly simple story. Two cops are just getting off duty after a long night shift. They meet up at a diner and discuss their encounters with Batman as they drink their coffee, one telling of the dark knight trying to talk down a possible jumper and the other of Batman dealing with a hostage crisis. Their conversation is overheard by a third cop, who tells his own tale of meeting the Bat.
