In the late 60’s, a small group of Pittsburgh television station staff and crew were brainstorming ideas for making a low budget horror film. They all wanted to use their equipment and experience in television production to make their own independent horror film. Someone brought up the latest trend of cannabinol pictures, the living eating the dead. Then a voice said, “What about the dead eating the living?” With that the horror genre was changed forever and the modern zombie movie as we know it was created.
The little movie that group, led by director George A. Romero made was, Night of the Living Dead. Romero kept at it by making Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, all with very limited budgets.
