1913 Wally Pipp rookie (Providence Grays)
This postcard image it shows Wally Pipp with his (G) hat logo for the International League Providence Grays in 1913. This would make it his earliest card.. none others like it as it is unique and one of a kind. When Pipp made it to the Major Leagues the very next season in 1914, he played for the Yanks the next eleven years until the Yankees replaced him with Lou Gehrig * The Iron Horse. This would begin Gehrigs streak of consecutive games and a chance at proving himself, and Gehrig knocked him off the roster in his rookie season. Pipp is still a legend, though, and as a Yankee as he was no slouch at the plate. The player beside him is unidentified, but we are working on finding more information put about him. This is considered Pipps' earliest known card to date.. which makes this the holy grail for true Yankee fans who love the old prewar game of dead ball, hit it whee they aren't!
