The new U.S. Army ECWCS Generation 3 (GENERATION 3) is a system consisting of 7 types of tops and 5 types of bottoms, designed to handle various climates and situations.
This Level 7 is the final cold weather outer layer for layering, and uses PrimaLoft for the inner layer. It is a high-tech material made of polyester that is said to be about 8 times warmer than down.
The most notable feature is that unlike down wear, it does not have feathers flying out or require a lot of maintenance, and it is machine washable, lightweight, and has a soft texture.
If the waterproof and breathable properties are reduced due to dirt, the function can be restored by washing.
