From great grandpas collection. He was born in 1899 but past that not sure how/when he got them. Gold tone trim, 1 ear piece w/small chain & bifocal looking area on lower part which is hard to photograph. few small scratches, original case lined in green velvet. Please ask questions as vintage specs are not my specialty. Sold As Is.
ITEM HAS NO PERSONAL USE BY ROOSEVELT: post published by the Library of Congress entitled The Pocket Items That Saved the Life of Theodore Roosevelt, reference is made to the “ordinary items that were unintentionally but strategically placed by the victim in a breast pocket that blocked the course of an otherwise lethal bullet… first was a thick fifty-page speech manuscript folded in half. Behind that was a metal eyeglass case in which Roosevelt kept his spectacles” The company that made the spectacles & steel case that held them likely saved Roosevelt’s life as he was the intended target of an assassin’s bullet the evening of October 14, 1912.
