This is a beautifully made wide brim hat from the 1940s'! The felt color is "pigeon blue", per the internet. The hat's amazing features are the topstitched scalloped pieces that form the crown, and adorn the wide brim, as photographed. The crown is round, and the wide brim has a slightly downturned edge. There is a lighter blue grosgrain band around the crown, which ends in a bow at the side. From this bow, there is a spray of coordinating darker blue curly feathers. There is an elastic band attached got the inside of the hat to keep it in a tilted position. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! Label: ELIZABETH DIXON - Winnetka (Affluent Chicago suburb)NOTE: The hat has a few slight moth bites, plus small darker blue stains...at the back, and inside the brim (photo # 14), but they are barely noticeable. For its age, this hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
