REFINED1940s' CREAM STRAW WIDE BRIM HAT WITH FUCHSIA FABRIC FLOWERS

This is a stunning hat from the fashionable 1940s'. The low crown is flat at the top and slants slightly forward, as was the fashion of the era. The wide brim, which folds down at the front is scalloped at the edges, following the pattern of the intricate straw weave. Around the crown there is a matching cream colored grosgrain band which ends in a bow at the back, cascading down. Surrounding the crown at the front and one side, there are beautiful fuchsia colored fabric "roses"and green petals. There is an elastic band attached go the inside of the hat to keep it in place.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This hat has one size, because it is supposed to sit on top of the head, supported by the elastic band attached to the inside. This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw & veils are fragile, given their age.
