This dramatic 1940s black wide brim hat consists of a flat, round crown and a flat wide brim. It is finished with two felt "birds", which have beaks made from feather shafts. This hat is most elegant, and can complete any outfit today. The veil can be worn down, or tucked on top of the brim.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. There is no brand label, indicating it was a custom made piece. The band inside the hat has a small label "ADJ"This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
