This jersey throws it back to Rick Nash’s rookie year in which the Jackets wore this version of their inaugural jerseys with “Stinger” shoulder patches. Stinger adorned the shoulders of the Blue Jackets jerseys for their first 3 seasons in the league. Stinger, if you didn’t know, is a yellow jacket, who has been mixed with Columbus’ primary color blue to make a brightly green colored hornet with terrifyingly piercing red eyes. Just a magnificent flair piece on a painfully 2000’s hockey sweater.

Another feature of these early Blue Jackets jerseys is the very subtle striping pattern on the jersey material. If you look at some of the closeup photos, you’ll notice two very similar shades of navy horizontal stripes meant to pay homage to the stripes on the American flag.
