This very rare & WEARABLE hat is typical of the Edwardian era (1901-1910). Made of cream colored straw, this wide brim hat consists of a medium sized crown surrounded by a wide and artistically folded band at the front, ending in a bow at the back. The wide brim is edged in navy grosgrain and upturned on both sides. The remarkable feature of this hat are the navy, gray and white feather birds at each side. AMAZING!!! The hat is very rare, and probably the oldest hat in our collection. This antique hat is a stunning piece of history which is in such well preserved condition that it can still be worn and create a sensation! The straw and the cream colored grosgrain show fading and discoloration upon close exam in action (please see photos), but the birds are in almost perfect condition with no visible breakage...though they must be handled with care. A COLLECTOR'S DREAMQuoted from RECOLLECTIONS website: Edwardian women must have spent most of their time dressing for whatever came next in their day/night. It wasn’t unusual for upper-class women to have at least six changes of clothing for a weekend outing. One needed to dress for shooting, hunting, lounging, promenading, dining, and more. No accessory was more important to finish off the properly attired Edwardian women than the hat.Label states: MFD.UNDER FAIR LABOR STANDARDSThis amazing vintage hathas been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
