Antique Chinese Porcelain Foo Dog, in beautiful condition, with no cracks or previous repairs, there are two tiny paint chips, one on the bottom left rear corner and one on the front right corner. Piece is not dated or stamped, based on comparison to similar pieces, I think it is an early 20th century piece. This Foo dog came with two tags, one reads "Robin's Egg Souffle," and the other reads 6500; I am assuming $65 at some point in time."Foo dog" is translated as "lion" but can also refer to dog with magical powers and the ability to repel evil spirits. Male foos have a ball under their right front paw, and the females have their right front foot on a puppy, symbolizing motherhood. The shishi appears with its mouth open (to frighten demons) or closed (to shelter and keep good spirits).Please note that as a vintage item, this porcelain foo dog may show signs of wear and age.
