A very good quality Italian gilt metal cylindrical canister/trinket box measuring 3 1/2 tall by 2 1/4 in diameter. The lid is inset with a porcelain lozenge on which is a romantic scene reminiscent of the Fragonard scenes from the Limoges studios. Surrounding the lozenge is an intricate pattern of leaves and flowers highlighted with inset green enamel. The central portion of the canister between the two bands is engine turned. The two bands are decorated in an identical scrolling pattern & the base has a rococo style pattern. The top and bottom rims also have identical patterns . The inside of the lid has a cross hatched pattern. All told there are six different patterns on this box, apart from the lozenge.The condition is generally very good. There is a worn patch of gilding internally on the base and usage wear to the rim caused by the removal and replacement of the lid which is a push fit. The rim is stamped 'Made Italy'.
