First edition, first printing hardcover copy of Steep Trails by John Muir (Houghton Mifflin, 1918). A stunning antique book where the acclaimed naturalist, conservationist and explorer documents his journeys through the American West. Originally serially published in magazines, and were first collected in one volume as this edition. With photographs, pictorial front cover, and gilt top edge of text block. Some mild rubbing/scuffing to covers and shelf wear around the edges. Faint liquid damage to bottom fore corner of book. Tear to tissue guard over frontispiece. Binding is split at title page and a few other gutters to a lesser extent. A few pages appear to have been unclipped are fore edge and crudely cut after the fact to gain access to these pages. Corners bumped. See photos for condition.
