MAGNIFICENT 1940s' BROWN FELT FEDORA WITH WIDE GROSGRAIN BAND + BOW + VEIL

This is a magnificent example of the fashionable hats worn during the 1940s'. This hat consists of a round, short crown surrounded by a stiff wide band of matching color grosgrain, creating a higher crown look. There is a medium brim surrounding the crown, which extends to the back, coveringmore of the hair. The grosgrain band is trimmed with a sophisticated larger bow. One of the bows extends upwards. There is a unique matching veil, creating a mysterious look.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. Imprinted inside the hat : Made in the USA, plus a size 22 label.There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
