Original gallery piece of art. Can be displayed indoors or out.8.5 lbsFor more then 26 years, Bill Heise has been creating unusual clever and often very elegant pieces of re presentation at sculpture out of found metal. Bill salvages his primary palette from the fields and scrap yards of Vermont. Saw blades, plow disks, pitch forks. cultivator spring teeth... once used, now abandoned-- are the forms and textures with which he creates. Each piece begins with a simple shape: a squiggle, a bulge, a contour. Other parts are added-- shovels, bolts, horse shoes, tines. More is welded together, until finally the finished creation stands alive. A heron poised to drink. A cow ionic ally chewing its cud. After teaching briefly, and moving to rural Vermont near Burlington, he began sculpting with found metal in 1966- first part-time, and soon thereafter as a successful working scuiptor. Each of Bill's steel and iron sculptures isstrong, solid and enduring. Because theyremade from found objects, none is perfect and no two are perfectly alke. Many are beautifully rusted-- not a sign of wear or deterioration but simply, like age, a proud badge of time. Occasionally, pieces are. given a boiled linseed oil coating for a more uniform patina; but Bil prefers to leave them exactly as he found them. And as for keeping them outdoors, there's nothing to worry about."Alot of this metal was in the ground 40 years before I ever got ahold of it.' Bill says. "A little weather won't hurt a bit."
