This is a jazz-funk tune written by Ozzie Johnson, a core member of the American jazz-funk band SIDE EFFECT, for Yasuko Agawa, a leading Japanese jazz singer, for her '84 album Gravy . This song, which is highly acclaimed not only as a morning anthem for the dance floor but also from all over the world, especially in the UK, is a masterpiece that uses the urban mellow sound of Ozzie's London Town, a UK jazz-funk masterpiece he provided to LIGHT OF THE WORLD, and blends it with Agawa's alluring and sorrowful sugar voice.
Also, the coupling includes two standard numbers: [B-2], a light bossa nova touch from her 4th album Fine! , and [B-1], a mellow slow song led by piano & sax from her '85 album All Right With Me, which is a great selection. This domestic 12 release, which was released after a hit in the UK club scene and the use of the song as a theme song for a TV variety show, is far superior in quality to the 12 released by a UK indie label (=reissued in recent years as a bootleg).
