4 Beautiful Vintage Kahla GDR Fish Dinner Plates German Democratic Republic. Plates measure 9in diameter and are marked on the back. There are 4 plates with 4 different fish designs. chips, nicks, cracks or fleabites. No crazing. No fading.
Kahla began production in 1844 and quickly developed into a leading manufacturer. Their products were sold throughout Germany. The porcelain factory stamped its wares Made in the GDR or made in the German Democratic Republic in 1949, during the Cold War. At the same time, West German companies reflected the country's division by marking its wares Made in West Germany.
Two years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the company went bankrupt. In 1994, it was refounded as KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH and since 2000 KAHLA has been held by the Raithel family.
