Up for sale is an absolutely incredible watercolor painting by listed Italian/English master, Giovanni Barbaro (1864-1915). Barbaro was born in Amalfi Italy in 1864. He later moved to England. He was an extremely popular Italian artist. His subjects were typically still life subjects or North African desert or street scenes (like the one here). Barbaro has hundreds of auction records up to 3,118. This piece is an absolute beauty, showing off an orientalist North African street scene. It shows incredible detail and skill. It is signed at lower right. The painting is matted and framed in a midcentury style frame.
The painting is in fair condition. There is a large dark area of staining in the sky area. There are also numerous spots of foxing throughout the piece. The matting is quite stained and could use a replacement.
Painting measures 14 inches high x 7 inches wide (sight). Frame measures 21.125 inches high x 13.625 inches wide.
