This silver moon of from a north African tribe that's been known for their silversmithing skills for 100s of years. Some dating back to the late roman era. This piece of silver has been d-based in order to lower it silver content. The reason this was done in the last few centuries was the same reason it had always been done for thousands of years. During times of hardship and turmoil it was in the governing factions best interest to make gold, silver coins and trade good stretch as far as possible. What they would do is mix precious metals with other lesser metals. This gives them not only the desirable gold and silver appearance but a lower quantity of material.
