Battery A, also known as the Keystone Battery, was originally organized in 1861 as a volunteer infantry company and served in the Civil War as an independent artillery battery from Pennsylvania. It was later reorganized as Battery A, 1st Regiment Artillery, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Pennsylvania State Militia, a part of the National Guard.
