A large multi – coloured double sided pure wool Welsh tapestry blanket using the very old Caernafon pattern (sometimes called the portcullis design) and produced by the DERW mill in Pentrecwrt, Wales in the 1960’s. The Caernafon pattern dates from the eighteenth century. In the 1960’s, COSIRA, Council of Small Industries in Rural Areas, was set up and given the task of revitalizing the mills of Wales. They re-introduced this pattern and issued it to all the mills in Wales which resulted in its wide and diverse use. These vintage Welsh blankets are an iconic part of Welsh history and each blanket design has its own personality. This particular blanket is in great original condition with its reversible colourway.
