This is a handwoven Bessarabian rug from the area west of the Black Sea in the area of modern day Moldova and surrounding countries. Due to the current war in the region, many extant rugs of this type have been destroyed. It is highly colorful and is flat woven by hand in a similar way a Turkish kilim is woven.
This rug is small room size and has mostly been used on one side where the colors are somewhat muted. The opposite side is quite striking with colors of black, red, green, gold, and yellow. This rug is mid 20th century. As with any rug, it will need a pad. Bear in mind, the war in Ukraine has destroyed many, many artifacts of this type.
