This is Libyan Desert Glass also known by the name of Great Sand Sea Glass or Libyan Gold Tektite. This specimen is a dark green color which is very rare. There is also grains of sand set in the back of the specimen. This beautiful specimen weighs 15.62 grams and it’s measurements are 1.0” wide and 1.25” long. An absolutely beautiful Golden Tektite. This comes with a stand, macramé necklace, floating tektite display case and a velvet carrying bag. A great gift for any occasion or add it to your personal collection.
Desert Glass is believed to have formed 29 million years ago, from meteorite impact or from an air burst form an Asteroid. The glass requires 2,912 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a very similar composition to Moldavite and other tektites.
They were also used as tools and lithic weapons during the Pleistocene. The cleave and can be shaped just like arrowheads and other prehistoric tools. King Tutankhamen had as its centerpiece a large carved scarab beetle of Libyan Gold Tektit
