The Yoruba people are a West African tribe in Nigeria, Benin and Togo. Their land is called Yorubaland. Originally, they started around the 1st century BE, by the 8th century a powerful city-state and an empire by 1200. Known for their strong urbanization, today are one of the largest groups in all Africa in addition to Yoruba people living around the world. Religiously, they are now about half and half Muslim and Christian with a small Jewish group.
