These pictures are an example of Europe's heritage, where history left its mark.
Over the centuries, many artists spent their lives in political prisons. While in
prison they devised different ways of occupying their time. One way was to use
the straw they found in the prison mattresses for creative purposes. Straw was
flattened and placed on paper and glued with an adhesive made of bread and
water. Cutting the straw into different shapes gave their imaginative minds a wide
range of expression. Thus, using such simple materials, they created beautiful straw pictures.
