HOTEL CALIFORNIA IS THE 5TH STUDIO ALBUM BY THE EAGLES RECORDED FROM MARCH TO OCTOBER OF 1976 AND RELEASED ON DECEMBER 8TH, 1976. It's one of the best selling albums of all time. It ranks #37 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
It was the Eagles first album with their new guitarist JOE WALSH who replaced founding member Bernie Leadon. The iconic cover is a photo of the Beverly Hills Hotel.
The album was nominate for several Grammy awards in 1978 and its title track Hotel California won the Record of the Year. A strange Grammy night though because the band's manager Irving Azoff refused the request by the Grammy producer for the band to attend and perform unless a win was GUARANTEED. Therefore they did not appear at the ceremony but of course - DID WIN AFTERALL. Don Henley later said: The whole idea of a contest to see who is 'best' just doesn't appeal to us.
