This Augustus (7/31/1526-2/11/1586), Elector of Saxony (1553-1586) bronze medallion is a rare and original piece of exonumia that would make a great addition to any collection. The medal has a diameter of 3.5 inches and is made of bronze. It features the image of Augustus, Elector of Saxony, on one side with the back being free of design or a maker's mark or year. This medal is a great way to commemorate his reign and is a must-have for any serious collector.
This is an original bronze casting. There are no cracks in the bronze or jagged edges. The hanger is a single piece, of what is believed to be copper wire, pulled through the medallion at the bend and then twisted into the decorative form you see in the pictures. Please review all photos and make inquiries before bidding or purchasing. This is a ONE-OF-A-KIND item. The closest item found was up for auction at the British Museum.
