Antique Chinese hair ornament, possibly from the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th to early 20th century)
★ Very good, vintage condition. Missing 3 pink glass cabochon stones on the dangling charms. For its age especially, it's in exceptional condition. ★
▪︎ Many antique Chinese & Tibetan hairpins were made of copper or copper alloys, such as brass gilded with silver or gold.
▪︎ In addition, many were adorned with intricate filigree work & semi-precious stones or, in this case, glass imitations to give them a more luxurious appearance.
▪︎ The intricate filigree metalwork, use of pink glass cabochon stones, and dangling charms are characteristic of traditional Chinese hairpins known as buyao.
▪︎ The term "buyao" translates to "shake as you go," referring to the dangling ornaments that move gracefully with the wearer's movements, symbolizing elegance & status.
▪︎ The craftsmanship & historical significance make these hair pins valuable to collectors.
