“Squad 18 was organized on July 1, 1998 at 132 West 10th Street in lower Manhattan and replaced Engine 19 that was disbanded that day. Engine 18 was originally organized on September 14, 1865 and replaced volunteer Guardian Engine 29. The company suffered the loss of seven members on 9/11/2001 at WTC. The predecessor Engine 19 also had seven line of duty deaths, five of which were at the tragic 23rd Street fire on October 17, 1966. In 2002, they responded to 2,612 alarms, of which, 1,804 were working fires.”
