Yank's Magic Carpet was a booklet created for U.S. Army personnel in China, Burma, and India during World War II. It was designed as a souvenir and was pre-censored for mailing. The booklet was prepared by the staff of Yank (CBI Edition), an Army weekly newspaper, and printed in Calcutta in 1945.
The booklet includes a pictorial map titled "CBI – 12,000 Miles from Main Street" and photographs of smiling natives. It aims to capture the positive elements of the WWII campaigns in the region. The text in the booklet is written like a tourism brochure.
The booklet was part of Operation Magic Carpet, which was the U.S. military's effort to bring troops home after the war. Operation Magic Carpet transported an average of 22,222 Americans home every day for a year.
