First edition, first printing hardcover copy of Pillars in Ethiopian History by William Leo Hansberry and edited by Joseph E. Harris (Howard University Press, 1974). Volume one in the William Leo Hansberry African Notebook series. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with moderate rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Liquid damage to jacket causing waviness and some staining. Boards straight but with corners bumped and some faint liquid damage towards bottom edge of both boards. Foxing and some mild discoloration to outer edges of text block and previous owner’s inscription on top edge of first page. Binding is firm and spine remains fairly straight.
