Vintage Bitossi Signed Italy Ceramic Donkey Planter MCM. Handmade Hand-Painted, Marked "Italy" with Initials. This type of planter, often attributed to the Bitossi region or Montelupo potteries, was popular in the mid-20th century, probably in the 1950s-60s from Bitossi Pottery.
This donkey has Etruscan ceramic effect which renders a black, smoky glaze, Bucchero ware, which is identified by its shiny black surface that resembles the appearance of metal- a result of a kiln deprived of oxygen.
It features a stylized donkey pulling a cart, which can be used to hold small plants, succulents, or even as a decorative item for storing trinkets.
These pieces are known for their hand-painted details & vibrant colors, often showcasing a rustic European or Boho Chic style. These have a whimsical or charming aesthetic. Handmade, no two are alike. Great condition, vintage aging on bottom of wheels & inside planter.
