This is an old Hanna Batrite toy bat commemorating the opening of another Mages sporting goods store. The bat must date to a period between the 1920s, when Mages was founded, to the 1950s, when the last store was likely opened. The bat measures about 18” long and is about 1.5” diameter at the thickest point.
This item is in GOOD CONDITION. The bat has taken on a nice patina with age. There are no cracks or splitting. The gold lettering is in nice shape but has been rubbed off in a few places. There are some bumps and dents, but nothing major.
The Hanna Manufacturing Company was founded in Athens, Georgia in 1911. The company started out making handles for tools and farm implement. Hanna began making toy bats for department stores in 1926 and shortly thereafter expanded to making bats for sporting goods stores, universities, and professional baseball.
