LED ZEPPELIN (IV) The untitled album. The designation of IV was not Zeppelin's (Jimmy Page's) doing. He wanted NOTHING on the album contrary to what press agents, publicity people and managers told him. They said it would be professional suicide. Page and the other three members disagreed and said it was the CONTENT that mattered and they got so much grief on the title of Led Zeppelin III, they wanted absolutely NOTHING on the outside album cover. No name, no words...NOTHING. They settled for the unknown designation of LZ IV.
With STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN leading the charge, along with Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Going to California, and others, LZ IV has become the 3rd highest selling album in music history, estimated at between 40 and 50 million sold.
This award was made by Kenneth Kittinger, the legendary gold record maker based in Nashville on Music Row for 50 years. He passed at 91 years in 2016, but his awards auction in Europe for as much as 5K.
