Signed first edition, second printing hardcover copy of Design for War: A Study of Secret Power Politics 1937-1941 by Frederic R. Sanborn (The Devin-Adair Company, 1951). An incredibly rare book made even more special by the author’s inscription and signature on front endpaper. An influential and under-reported examination of the military and political moves made by leaders in the the lead-up to World War II. These secretive actions often were at odds with what these political leaders said publicly. No dust jacket. Boards mildly worn from handling and age, mostly limited to edges and corners. A few instances where binding material is faintly visible in gutter, though spine is straight, hinges are secure and binding remains fairly firm on the whole. Small stain to top outer edge of text block near spine and a few pages have creases/bumps along fore edge, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.
