As the quartz crystals grow, it can encounter pockets or zones high in amphibole minerals. The growth of the quartz crystal can slow down in these amphibole pockets. This pause in growth allows the amphibole minerals to form intricate, feathery patterns within the quartz. The camera wasn't doing this piece justice. It was hard for the blue to transmit through the camera. It is very blue in person, with red feathering that provides a beautiful contrast.
It is much harder to find blue amphibole quartz, so this piece was a little pricey.
