NLE

Overview

A Non-Linear Editing system, or NLE, performs non-destructive edits on the source material. Since most NLEs work by randomly accessing files on video servers or hard disks, edits on the material can be made in any order without damaging the source. Since the advent of the computer and the digitization of film production, NLEs have largely superseded the process of linear editing, which is the necessary process for film editing. Popular NLEs include Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid Media Composer.
