Up conversion is the process of converting lower resolution content–typically Standard Definition content–to a higher resolution–typically an HD format. Rather than a simple scaling up that softens the image, modern up-conversion algorithms use edge detection to keep edge detail looking crisp and clean when converting the imagery.
