Recreating the Joker’s Color Grade

Overview

Oscar-Winner Joker (2019) is a visual tour de force, particularly in the color department. The color grading of Joker brings to life a decaying yet volatile city (Gotham), that is past the point of being down on its luck. Color expert Waqas Qazi does a deep dive into what it takes to recreate from scratch a color scheme like this in Davinci Resolve 16. He utilizes color wheels, curves, palettes, parade scopes, and waveform monitors to get the job done. Walkthrough tutorials like this are excellent for beginner and intermediate Davinci users looking to fully maximize the software’s capabilities.
