Noise

Overview

Noise refers to unwanted or extra information in a video or audio signal. Snow or white noise is produced, respectively, in the video or audio outputs.

In the digital age, noise replaces film grain as an artifact of the filming process.

Digital noise is exacerbated by low light conditions.

When compositing elements into a shot, the noise pattern in a shot must be matched across the elements to create a convincing result.
