Focal Length

Overview

The focal length of a lens, usually expressed in millimeters, is the distance between the the lens and the camera’s backing sensor, when the lens is focused on a subject at an infinite distance from the camera (in other words, when the camera is focused on a distant object).

Focal length is the primary method for identifying lenses, and is commonly referred to as the “size” of the lens.
