LED, short for light emitting diode, is the most recent advancement in lighting technology. Like traditional filament lamps, LEDs come in various form factors and output levels. The biggest advantage to LED would be its output to power consumption and output to heat ratios. You get more light and less heat than traditional tungsten based and fluorescent fixtures. LED fixtures can be programmed to output a specific color temperature or cover a wide range of colors, in order to match any existing tungsten or daylight balanced lights on a set. A potential disadvantage is the flickering that can occur on cameras with rolling shutter or cameras filming at high speeds.
